Shadowflame #4
I wish that I could have reviewed the entire Shadowflame series, but even though I ordered all four issues from my comic store, only this last issue actually showed up. My store claims that they ordered them, so this is most likely a Diamond problem. In any event I’m glad that I got at least this final issue.

Kid Kosmos Kidnapped
Once in a while a major creator will step out of the worlds of the big two comic publishers and create something for himself. This doesn’t seem to happen often, but it’s usually worth a look. Kid Kosmos is Jim Starlin’s creation, and it’s definitely worth a look.
Published by Dynamite Entertainment, this long delayed graphic novel, it was originally scheduled for last year, has been worth the wait. It picks up directly from the earlier Cosmic Guard mini-series and continues the story of Ray Torres, a young orphan who is chosen to be the latest Comic Guardian.
Bizarre New World #2
About a year and a half ago I was feeling a little fed up with DC and Marvel comics, Marvel especially, and decided to pick up some Image books and give them a try. That turned out so well that earlier this year I decided to do the same to the small press comics. Now I’m still primarily interested in the super-hero genre, so I wasn’t interested in a lot of them, but as it turns out there are quite a few books that are at least tangentially related to super-heroes. Bizarre New World is one of the better ones in this category.
Tales from the Crypt #1
I ordered this book blindly out of Previews. I wanted to see if they could bring back a comic that, with the help of a paranoid nation and some opportunistic jerks, almost brought down the entire comic book industry. Did they succeed? Are we in danger of another round of Wertham and McCarthy style repression? Maybe for that second question, but not because of this book.
Hulk
I just finished watching Hulk on DVD. I saw it in the theater when it came out, so the movie’s faults were not a surprise to me. I really wanted to like this movie so I went into my second viewing with only vague memories from when I first saw it, and low expectations. They weren’t low enough.

The Flash: The Fastest Man Alive #13
Justice League of America #10
This issue featured the end of the Lightning Saga which has been one of my favorite stories in recent time. Finally we got to see the REAL Legion again and they were treated with respect. I think Waid meant well with the reboot of LSH, but it hasn’t worked for me at all. I’ll get more into that at some other time.
